Simple Swahili sentences

In a typical sentence in Swahili which uses the verb 'to be', the verb is placed between the subject and the attribute as in English. The verb 'to be' is 'ni' in both the singular and the plural.

Examples

Nyumba ni ndogo.
The houses are small.
Nyumba ni tupu.
The houses are empty.
Nyumba ni kubwa.
The houses are big.
Nyumba ni nzee.
The houses are old.
Nyumba ni mpya.
The houses are new.
