Amharic demonstrative pronouns : this

Demonstrative pronouns are used with nouns to make them more specific. The English demonstrative pronoun 'this' is 'yih' or 'yihič' in Amharic. The word 'yih' is used with masculine words and the word 'yihič' is used with feminine words.

Demonstrative pronouns are used to refer to specific objects and their locations. In English, this would be the words this and these to refer to objects which are near and that and those to refer to objects which are further away. Using the nouns metshāf, wenber and ber (book, chair, door) which you learned in Step 3, learn to use the demonstrative pronouns with each of these nouns (this book, that chair, these doors). After you've learned to use the Amharic demonstrative pronouns with the nouns metshāf, wenber and ber and the plural nouns metshāfoč, wenberoč and beroč you can move on to Step 7 (Amharic adjectives).
