The German definite article

The definite article is what we call the word 'the' in English. The definite article is used with nouns. The English definite article 'the' has different forms in German. depending on whether the word to which it belongs is masculine, feminine or neuter. The definite article for masculine words is 'der'. For feminine words, it is 'die' and for neuter words it is 'das'.

The nouns together with the definite article are das Buch, der Stuhl and die Tür (the book, the chair, the door).
