German demonstrative pronouns : this

Demonstrative pronouns are used with nouns to make them more specific. The English demonstrative pronoun 'this' has different forms in German depending on whether the word to which it belongs is masculine, feminine or neuter. The demonstrative pronoun for masculine words is 'dieser'. For feminine words, it is 'diese' and for neuter words it is 'dieses'.

Step 6 : German demonstrative pronouns

Demonstrative pronouns are used to refer to specific objects and their locations. In English, this would be the words this and these to refer to objects which are near and that and those to refer to objects which are further away. Using the nouns Buch, Stuhl and Tür (book, chair, door) which you learned in Step 3, learn to use the demonstrative pronouns with each of these nouns (this book, that chair, these doors). After you've learned to use the German demonstrative pronouns with the nouns Buch, Stuhl and Tür and the plural nouns Bücher, Stühle and Türen you can move on to Step 7 (German adjectives).
