Hungarian demonstrative pronouns : this

Demonstrative pronouns are used with nouns to make them more specific. The English demonstrative pronoun 'this' has two forms in Hungarian. Normally, the demonstrative pronoun is 'ez a'. Before a vowel however, the demonstrative pronoun is 'ez az'.

Demonstrative pronouns are used to refer to specific objects and their locations. In English, this would be the words this and these to refer to objects which are near and that and those to refer to objects which are further away. Using the nouns könyv, szék and (book, chair, door) which you learned in Step 3, learn to use the demonstrative pronouns with each of these nouns (this book, that chair, these doors). After you've learned to use the Hungarian demonstrative pronouns with the nouns könyv, szék and and the plural nouns könyvek, székek and ajtók you can move on to Step 7 (Hungarian adjectives).
