The Icelandic definite article

The definite article is what we call the word 'the' in English. The definite article is used with nouns. A unique feature of Icelandic is that, unlike English, the definite article comes after the noun as a suffix. The English definite article 'the' has different forms in Icelandic depending on whether the word to which it belongs is masculine, feminine or neuter. The definite article for masculine words is '-inn'. For feminine words, it is '-in|-an' and for neuter words it is '-ið'.
