Lingala verb conjugation: I

Verbs are used to describe actions. A unique feature of Lingala is that it conjugates its verbs by adding a prefix to the front of the verb. A different prefix is used for each person. For the first person singular, most verbs in Lingala use the prefix 'na-'.

Step 8 : Lingala verbs

Verbs are used to describe actions. There are 1000's of verbs that you can learn in Lingala. A good approach would be to start out by learning just three Lingala verbs by heart. We suggest you learn the Lingala verbs komona, kolinga and kolinga (see, want, like). Using the nouns buku, kiti and ekuke (book, chair, door) which you learned in Step 3, learn to use each verb with each noun (I want the book, you see the chair, they like the door etc.). You can scroll to the top of this page to see a short lesson about Lingala verbs including useful examples. After you've learned using the three verbs komona, kolinga and kolinga by heart you can move on to Step 9 (Lingala possessive pronouns).
