Malay verb conjugation: I

Verbs are used to describe actions. Malay verbs in the present tense do not conjugate for each person. This means that the verb stays the same for 'I', 'you', 'he', 'they' etc. This is similar to the case in English.

Verbs are used to describe actions. There are 1000's of verbs that you can learn in Malay. A good approach would be to start out by learning just three Malay verbs by heart. We suggest you learn the Malay verbs melihat, ingin and suka (see, want, like). Using the nouns buku, kerusi and pintu (book, chair, door) which you learned in Step 3, learn to use each verb with each noun (I want the book, you see the chair, they like the door etc.). You can scroll to the top of this page to see a short lesson about Malay verbs including useful examples. After you've learned using the three verbs melihat, ingin and suka by heart you can move on to Step 9 (Malay possessive pronouns).
