Simple Finnish sentences

In a typical sentence in Finnish which uses the verb 'to be', the verb is placed between the subject and the attribute as in English. In the singular, the verb 'to be' is 'on'. In the plural, the verb 'to be' is 'ovat'.

Examples

Pöydät ovat uusia.
The tables are new.
Pöydät ovat pieniä.
The tables are small.
Pöydät ovat suuria.
The tables are big.
Pöydät ovat vanhoja.
