Simple French sentences

In a typical sentence in French which uses the verb 'to be', the verb is placed between the subject and the attribute as in English. In the singular, the verb 'to be' is 'est'. In the plural, the verb 'to be' is 'sont'.

Examples

Les chevaux sont blancs.
The horses are white.
Les chevaux sont petits.
The horses are small.
Les chevaux sont noirs.
The horses are black.
Les chevaux sont vieux.
The horses are old.
Les chevaux sont grands.
The horses are big.
