Simple Portu­guese sentences

In a typical sentence in Portuguese which uses the verb 'to be', the verb is placed between the subject and the attribute as in English. In the singular, the verb 'to be' is 'é'. In the plural, the verb 'to be' is 'são'.

As maçãs são verdes.
The apples are green.
As maças são redondas.
The apples are round.
As maçãs são vermelhas.
The apples are red.
As maçãs são boas.
The apples are good.
As maças são grandes.
The apples are big.
