Simple Spanish sentences

In a typical sentence in Spanish which uses the verb 'to be', the verb is placed between the subject and the attribute as in English. In the singular, the verb 'to be' is 'es'. In the plural, the verb 'to be' is 'son'.

Las casas son nuevas.
The houses are new.
Las casas son viejas.
The houses are old.
Las casas son pequeñas.
