The Slovenian definite article

The definite article is what we call the word 'the' in English. A unique feature of Slovenian is that, unlike English, the definite article comes after the noun. The English definite article 'the' has various forms in Slovenian. Depending on the class of the noun, the various forms are 'a', 'b', 'c' and 'd'.

The definite article is what we call the word the in English. The definite article is used with nouns in English (the book, the chair, the door etc.). Using the nouns knjiga, stol and vrata (book, chair, door) which you learned in Step 3, learn how to use each noun with the definite article. This is easy in Slovenian, because in Slovenian, there is no definite article. So the word knjiga can mean book or the book, the word stol can mean chair or the chair and the word vrata can mean door or the door.
