Tibetan demonstrative pronouns : this

Demonstrative pronouns are used with nouns to make them more specific. A unique feature of Tibetan is that, unlike English, the demonstrative pronoun comes after the noun. The English demonstrative pronoun 'this' is 'din' in Tibetan.

Step 6 : Tibetan demonstrative pronouns

Demonstrative pronouns are used to refer to specific objects and their locations. In English, this would be the words this and these to refer to objects which are near and that and those to refer to objects which are further away. Using the nouns teb, kupkya and go (book, chair, door) which you learned in Step 3, learn to use the demonstrative pronouns with each of these nouns (this book, that chair, these doors). You can scroll to the top of this page to see a short lesson about Tibetan demonstrative pronouns including useful examples. After you've learned to use the Tibetan demonstrative pronouns with the nouns teb, kupkya and go and the plural nouns tebtso, kupkyatso and gotso you can move on to Step 7 (Tibetan adjectives).
