The Wolof definite article

The definite article is what we call the word 'the' in English. The definite article is used with nouns. A unique feature of Wolof is that, unlike English, the definite article comes after the noun. The English definite article 'the' has various forms in Wolof. Depending on the first letter of the noun which it follows, the various forms are 'bi', 'gi', 'ji', 'li', 'mi', 'si' and 'wi'.
