The Amharic definite article

The definite article is what we call the word 'the' in English. The definite article is used with nouns. A unique feature of Amharic is that, unlike English, the definite article comes after the noun as a suffix. The English definite article 'the' has different forms in Amharic depending on whether the word to which it belongs is masculine or feminine. The definite article for masculine words is '-u'. For feminine words the definite article is '-wa'.
