Amharic nouns - plural

The plural is used, in general, to talk about more than one object. Examples in English would be 'dogs', 'cats', 'houses' and 'children'. The plural in Amharic is generally formed by adding '-oč' to the end of the word.

The plural is important in Amharic when you need to talk about more than one thing. Using the nouns metshāf, wenber and ber (book, chair, door) which you learned in Step 3, learn the plural of each of these words by heart. The plural forms are metshāfoč, wenberoč and beroč. Now learn how to use each of these Amharic plural nouns with the definite article. The nouns together with the definite article are metshāfoču, wenberoču and beroču (the books, the chairs, the doors).
