Simple Welsh sentences

In a typical sentence in Welsh which uses the verb 'to be', the verb 'mae' is placed at the beginning of the sentence. It is also possible to place the attribute at the beginning of the sentence to create emphasis. In this case the verb form 'yw' is used.

Mae'r gwragedd yn brydferth.
The women are beautiful.
Mae'r menywod yn drist.
The women are sad.
Mae'r gwragedd yn ieuanc.
The women are young.
Mae'r gwragedd yn hen.
The women are old.
Mae'r menywod yn hapus.
