Simple Welsh sentences

In a typical sentence in Welsh which uses the verb 'to be', the verb 'mae' is placed at the beginning of the sentence. It is also possible to place the attribute at the beginning of the sentence to create emphasis. In this case the verb form 'yw' is used.

Examples

Mae'r drws yn fach.
The door is small.
Mae'r drws yn fawr.
The door is big.
Mae'r drws yn newydd.
The door is new.
Mae'r drws ar agor.
The door is open.
Mae'r drws ar gau.
The door is closed.
