The definite article is what we call the word 'the' in English. A unique feature of Somali is that, unlike English, the definite article comes after the noun as a suffix. The English definite article 'the' has different forms in Somali. The form of the definite article depends on whether the noun to which it belongs is masculine or feminine . The definite article for masculine nouns is '-ka', '-ga' or '-ha'. The definite article for feminine nouns is '-ta', '-sha' or '-da'.
