Demonstrative pronouns are used with nouns to make them more specific. A unique feature of Somali is that, unlike English, the demonstrative pronoun comes after the noun as a suffix. The English demonstrative pronoun 'this' has different forms in Somali. The form of the demonstrative pronoun depends on whether the noun to which it belongs is masculine, or feminine. The demonstrative pronoun for masculine nouns is '-kan' or '-han'. The demonstrative pronoun for feminine nouns is '-tan' or '-dan'.
