The Spanish definite article

The definite article is what we call the word 'the' in English. The definite article is used with nouns. The English definite article 'the' is 'el' or 'la' in Spanish. The word 'el' is used with masculine words and the word 'la' is used with feminine words.

The nouns together with the definite article are el libro, la silla and la puerta (the book, the chair, the door).
