Urdu verb conjugation: I

Verbs are used to describe actions. A unique feature of Urdu is that it conjugates differently for males and females. Verbs in Urdu can use the verb 'to be' as an auxiliary verb. For the first person singular, most Urdu verbs use the ending '-ta' with males and the ending '-ti' with females.

Step 8 : Urdu verbs

Verbs are used to describe actions. There are 1000's of verbs that you can learn in Urdu. A good approach would be to start out by learning just three Urdu verbs by heart. We suggest you learn the Urdu verbs dekna, chāna and pasand karna (see, want, like). Using the nouns kitab, kursi and darvaza (book, chair, door) which you learned in Step 3, learn to use each verb with each noun (I want the book, you see the chair, they like the door etc.). You can scroll to the top of this page to see a short lesson about Urdu verbs including useful examples. After you've learned using the three verbs dekna, chāna and pasand karna by heart you can move on to Step 9 (Urdu possessive pronouns).
